'NGOs can help bridge IT gap'

KOTA KINABALU: Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) can assist the state government to narrow the digital divide in Sabah.

State Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Siringan Gubat said the information communication technology-related training programme organised by the Sabah Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals Association (Swepa) over the weekend was an example of how a more ICT-savvy community could be created.

"Swepa worked closely with Sabah Computer Society in making this training a success. The cooperation between these two should be emulated by other NGOs.

"While they trained members and participants, they had inadvertently helped to raise the level of ICT knowledge.

"It is a clear indication that the government is able to work with NGOs to facilitate in the growth of the ICT sector in Sabah," he said when closing the "Basic Usage on Mobile Tablets in IOS and Android" here, yesterday.
