The Coca Cola company and Raleigh International has matured into a sustainable corporate social responsibility(CSR) programme which has benefited 32 villages in the rural areas of Sabah.
The "Clean Water for Communities " project began in 2006 in Kg Paus, situated in deep inland in Ranau, when a group of youth volunteers came in to construct a water gravity feed system to channel water directly into the village. The project received support from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah.
To date, the Coca Cola funded project has brought a new lease of life to 15,000 people as they can now enjoy the basic necessity of having clean water piped into their homes or village for daily consumption.
At the end of April, 3 more villages in Pitas benefited from the project, and the company has since committed about RM654,000 and the funding will continue to bring relief to more villagers until the end of 2014.
