SANDAKAN: The construction of the Labuk Distribution Main Intake Sub-station (PPU) here is among several initiatives taken by Sabah Electricity Sendirian Berhad (SESB) to improve the power supply in this area.
The Labuk PPU started operation on May 17, 2013 and has been able to supply power to the areas around Taman Fortune, Sibuga Jaya Town, Puspakom, Seguntor, Chang Sawmill, Meranti and Semawang Sawmill and Taman Tah Fai Yen.
According to SESB general manager (main project), Ir John Gomez, a total of 1,685 domestic, commercial and industrial sector consumers in the area benefited from the Labuk PPU.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Gomez said the construction of the Labuk PPU had helped to reduce the power supply burden of Seguntor PPU for the moment.
“ Labuk PPU, with a capacity of 26 megawatt, is one of the seven PPUs in this district which has an overall capacity of 91 megawatt. The construction of the Labuk PPU is expected to replace the Seguntor PPU in stages since it is located at an isolated area which made it difficult to maintain,” he said.
A total of RM8.4 million was allocated by the government under the Ninth Malaysian Rolling Plan for the project.Borneo Post
