SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has completed the process of screening candidates submitted by political parties to contest in the coming general election.
However, MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Sutinah Sutan said political parties could request the commission for the service if they still had candidates to be screened.
She said it was nothing new for the commission to screen candidates for the general election as it had done so on 891 candidates for the 2008 general election.
"The outcome of the process will be conveyed to the applicants and the final decision to decide on the candidates are for the parties concerned," she told reporters after the signing of a corporate integrity pledge between Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan Sdn Bhd (SAINS) and MACC here on Monday.
Also present at the function were Negri Sembilan State SecretaryDatuk Mat Ali Hassan, State MACC director Sok One s/o Esen and SAINS general manager Zulkifli Ibrahim.
Sutinah said there was no provision in the law which required political parties to submit names of their potential candidates for screening by MACC, but an initiative by the commission to ensure the country's administrators comprised those with integrity and free from corruption.
She said screening was also done on candidates for important posts in the Government.
On the corporate integrity pledge with MACC, she said 175 companies in the country had signed it. - Bernama
