KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman has lambasted opposition leaders, particularly the recycled ones, some of whom left Barisan Nasional (BN) because they did not get their way, for claiming that BN has not brought any development to Sabah.
In refuting the claim, he said it was totally baseless.
“Just look around you and you can see for yourself the development in Kota Kinabalu and the rest of the state. The BN government has a proven track record and we have plans such as the Economic Transformation Programme and the Government Transformation Programme that will only bring more progress.
“We are aware that a lot of allegations are being made against the government, but these are just lies spread by those who are bent on changing the government,” he said in his speech in conjunction with the Chinese New Year Carnival at Lintasan Deasoka, here, last night.
Musa said the opposition made many promises but these were just empty ones and lies to hoodwink the public.
On development, he said the state government had come up with detailed and comprehensive plans by taking into consideration current needs and requirements of different areas in this vast state.
“For example, in some rural areas, we have extended knowledge on commercial crop planting that reaps a good income, and we have also provided infrastructure to ensure that local products can be marketed.
“The government is aware that it must provide development for all, and for this reason, a lot of attention is given to rural areas. The efforts are on-going to bridge regional gaps and to reduce poverty.”
He said the government was committed to ensuring holistic development regardless of political affiliation, race and other factors.
On another note, Musa said: “The Chinese New Year is one that is welcomed by all, and is not confined to only the Chinese community celebrating it.
“We see people from all walks of life dressing up not only in traditional Chinese attire, but also in red or bright coloured batik and baju kurung, truly celebrating the spirit of muhibbah.
“I hope this carnival organised by Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) and the Api-Api state constituency office will be carried out continuously. What started as an event eight years ago has strengthened unity among the people.”
Musa said it was sad that some parts of the world continued to be engaged in conflict and war.
“Here, in Malaysia including Sabah, we can carry on with our lives without fear and we are free to pursue our daily tasks.
“I wish to call on all to protect the harmony that we enjoy today and to not allow any quarters to undermine efforts to strengthen unity,” he added.
