Starkey Hearing Foundation, a NGO in the US dedicated to providing the gift of hearing to those who are in need of help around the world, has chosen Malaysia in Aug 2011 to participate in its programme to help those in need nationwide.
This year, the programme has been expanded to Sabah, which is being carried out with the help of Knowles and Hearing Aid Centre Sdn Bhd, Sabah General Welfare Department, the special education sector and NGOs. A total of 1,300 patients have registered in Sabah.
In Sabah, there are a big of number of people who had hearing difficulty, based on the statistics from Jabatan Kebajikan Am Negeri which recorded more than 1,000 people statewide.
The patients in Sabah are now waiting for the fitting day and will be updated through letter or sms, and they are honoured with the vision, So Sabah May Hear.
