Govt agencies urged to help needy

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah government agencies are encouraged to use their profits to help the rakyat through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said he was satisfied with the financial management of these agencies where almost all had produced excellent profits.
"This is proven when agencies that owe the government manage to pay their debt and those who do not, pay dividends to the government.
"As a result, we receive hundreds of million in dividends from these agencies and we use it for the people," Musa said after opening a course for Sabah statutory bodies and board of directors at Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa here yesterday.
Musa, who is also state finance minister, called on all agencies to carry out their CSR where they could make use of some of the profits to assist the needy.
This included helping single mothers, senior citizens and repairing dilapidated schools.
"This is the advantage when we have good management and administration, we can help the government and benefit the people."
He said the course titled "Towards board excellence: Appreciating strategic financial management and corporate fraud" was vital and necessary to boost knowledge and performance among the participants.
He advised all directors to ensure government statutory bodies were in a strong position and continued to make profit.
