466,938 Primary One to Form Five students receive aid from government

21st January, 2013
SANDAKAN: A total of 466,938 students in Sabah ranging from Primary One to Form Five gain from the early schooling aid given by the government. Each one receives RM100 from an allocation ofRM46.6 million.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said this clearly showed that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government under the leadership of Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, fulfilled its promise to the people to help ease their burden.
He said the early schooling aid was just one of several forms of assistance to boost education in the country. Others include the Supplementary Food Programme, aid for poor students or KWAMP, hostels as well as abolishing school fees.
Schools have been built and repaired, students get 1Malaysia laptops, teaching and learning facilities have improved and many more, he added.
“The government always thinks and plans to help the people directly. It is planned, not only for today, but for our children and grandchildren, especially involving education, which is the priority of the country,” he said at a ceremony to hand over early schooling aid at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Merpati here yesterday.
The Chief Minister said the government was seriously committed in helping the people, irrespective of race and religion, and would keep on having programmes that benefit the people.
He said the state government gave priority to education and through the Sandakan Education Hub, hoped to provide opportunities for further education to locals so they would not have to spend more on pursuing studies out of Sabah.
“The state government has given a huge allocation in the State Budget towards the development of youth and human capital. The Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as the Ministry of Resource Development and Information Technology have embarked on various initiatives to ensure we get trained and highly skilled human capital in certain fields.
“Our rapidly growing economy in Sabah requires experts and professionals in the areas of technology, oil and gas, engineering and modern agriculture,” he said.
He said the government and people of Sabah appreciated federal government efforts in easing the people’s burden and advised recipients of the RM100 aid to use the money wisely.
Those present at the event yesterday included Libaran member of parliament, Datuk Juslie Ajirol, Gum-Gum assemblyman, Datuk Zakaria Edris, Sekong assemblyman, Datuk Samsudin Yahya, Sabah Umno Wanita chief, Datuk Armani Haji Mahiruddin and deputy director of the Sabah Education Department, Hajah Maimunah Suhaibul as well as the president of the Sandakan Municipal Council, Datuk James Wong.
