KOTA KINABALU: Sixty seven graduates of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) yesterday received keys to the city of Kota Kinabalu.
They were part of the 300 who took part in the annual Town & Gown Procession organised by the City Hall.
The procession started six years ago and always attracted large
crowds of spectators prompting Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir to say that
it could become another tourism product for the city.
“It also injects a sense of pride among city dwellers because there
is a prestigious local university in their midst. The procession also is
a symbol of public acceptance and cohesion between the university and
community,” he said.
Abidin was speaking when delivering his speech at the event held at the compounds of the City Hall.
This year’s theme is “University & Community: Harmony for the
Future”, which he said was in line with the country’s aspirations to
produce a progressive society.
