Hisham: 2013 Budget proof of govt’s commitment in crime reduction

2nd October, 2012

BEAUFORT: The recently announced 2013 Budget is a proof of government’s seriousness, commitment, and concern in ensuring the success of National Key Result Areas (NKRA) in Crime Reduction, said Home Affairs Minister Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
He said the 2013 Budget saw an increase in allocation by 68.8 per cent or RM240 millions over the previous budget allocation for NKRA in Crime Reduction to a total of RM591 million compared to RM351millions in 2012.
Ministry of Home Affairs receives allocation of RM11.525 billions in 2013 Budget compared to RM11.036 billions received under the previous budget, representing an increase of 4.4 per cent.
“I am proud because, for the first time the budget allocated for an increase in police force personnel. To me, expanding the size of the police force is vital considering the demographic factor in this country as the increase of police personnel has not been compatible with the increase in the population.
“For instance, the current ratio of police personnel to the country’s population is 1:257 representing 110,000 cops to 28.3 million people. Moreover, mass intake of PDRM personnel was only made in 1969,” explained Hishammuddin.

  2. The public must trust the police. Public safety is our priority. In the case of Sabah, even our General Operations Force personnel go to the ground to help combat crime, particularly in major towns
