Sarawak registers 12% drop in crime for first half of 2012

KUCHING: The state recorded a healthy 12% drop in crime rate for the first half of the year, said Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
He said from January to June this year, the crime index registered 5,043 cases compared with 5,702 for the same period last year, a reduction of 659 cases.
"However, police officers at all levels must continue to double their efforts to ensure the downward trend continued," he said during a monthly gathering at the Sarawak police headquarters here on Tuesday.
He said since crime rate in rural areas was still high, all district police heads had to study the reasons and act promptly to curb such activities.
"From the statistics, it's a good sign but we need to improve further. This can be achieved through closer cooperation among all concerned parties and increased police omnipresence in the crime hot spots," he said.
He also urged police officers at all levels to maintain their discipline, integrity and inculcate positive values to avoid being involved in negative activities. - Bernama
