MUSA: UNITY KEY TO BN STRENGTH

9th September, 2012
tenom: Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman has called for unity and cooperation among Umno and Barisan Nasional leaders and members, saying it is the key to the ruling coalition’s strength.
The Chief Minister said unity among BN parties including Umno would ensure the government is strong and stable.
“We must be strong because we want Umno and BN to remain as government at the state and federal levels,” he said when opening the delegates meeting of Umno Tenom and Pensiangan divisions here yesterday.
Musa also said it was his desire to “turun padang” often to meet the people not only in his capacity as Chief Minister but also as Sabah BN and Umno chief.
And, he added that it was important to continue to intensify efforts to look after the people’s wellbeing by carrying more development programmes especially in the interior areas.
Umno, he pointed out, was not merely a political party but one that constantly worked hard to serve the rakyat.
“Umno is led by sincere, responsible and caring leaders. Under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s leadership, Sabah has received huge allocation to carry out various transformation programmes and initiatives,” he added.
On poverty, Musa said Sabah’s poverty rate declined from 24.2 per cent in 2004 to 19.7 per cent in 2009.
“The poverty rate in the interior went down by 13.2 per cent,” he said, adding that this proved the commitment of the government in eradicating poverty and to ensure a better future for the people, especially the poor.
The Chief Minister also said much had been done to improve the wellbeing of the people in the interior.
He expressed confidence that Umno Tenom and Pensiangan would remain as BN’s strongholds.
“The interior will remain a BN territory. This is achievable if Umno and BN members place party interest above self-interest.
“We are so much better off compared to the opposition parties which are only good at making promises, criticising and blaming everything on Umno and BN.
“The fact remains that they are worse off…states under PR are regressing, people are suffering and their needs are not fulfilled,” Musa said.
And, he also said he was confident that members of Umno Tenom and Pensiangan were wise in deciding what was good for them.
Musa said the people should not be taken in by the issues raised by the opposition as their aim was only to weaken the ruling coalition.
“They don’t intend to do anything for the people…they have no development planning and agenda,” he said.
Musa said the BN on the other hand not only talked but worked, served the people and fulfilled the promises made to them.
“Don’t dwell on trivial issues…instead we must serve the people and strengthen the party at all levels,” he stressed.
And on the 13th general election, the Chief Minister advised against raising the issue of allocation of seats and candidacy.
“We must leave this to the BN top leadership to decide based on the spirit of camaraderie and unity which is our strength all this while.
“We must work hard to ensure Umno continues to be relevant and respected. And Umno as the backbone of the BN government must strengthen and mobilise its machinery to ensure the party achieves success in the coming election,” Musa said.
Meanwhile, he said the road linking Kuala Tomani and Ulu Tomani would be upgraded after the Public Works Department has done the cost estimation and submitted a full report.
