Polls to decide nation's destiny

Sandakan: The 13th General Election is not just about winning but about Malaysia's future destiny.
Hence, it is important for Barisan Nasional (BN) to be returned as the Government in order to send a strong signal to the world that its transformation programmes towards Vision 2020 is the people's choice.
"Sabah is very important É it has potential to be a very well developed State under BN with the help of the Federal Government, we can make real progress and real change in Sabah," Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said, when opening the Liberal Democratic Party's (LDP) 23rd Congress at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Sunday.
"We have proven that what we promised we will fulfil," he said.
He said the State Government under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman had been taking good care of Sabah, especially its pristine nature as shown with the cancellation of the proposed coal-fired power plant in Lahad Datu.
"When there is coal in Maliau Basin (former Minister) Lim Keng Yaik asked the Chief Minister whether you want monkey or money (gold) and Sabah people said we want monkeys to protect the environment," he said.
Najib paid tribute to former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who also attended the LDP congress opening, as the architect of the Vision 2020 goal of becoming a developed nation.
"As someone who has retired as Prime Minister he could have chosen to relax at home during a Sunday. Instead, he chose to come all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Sandakan just to attend.
"This is an example of a leader's sacrifice who cares and loves the Barisan Nasional.
Dr Mahathir realises so long as Barisan Nasional continue to be in power then our struggle can be continued.
"This is the best example for us, even though we don't have post due to not chosen by the party we still support the BN," he said.
"The architect of Vision 2020 is here and the implementer is here.
I have always said Tun you have the easier part you (just) announced and I am implementing it.
But Tun (Mahathir) is with me, so I have the spirit to do it," he said.
In reality, BN had become stronger than the opposition so long as the component parties remained united and cooperate with one another in the BN family, he said.
