Shed negative attitude: CM

Published on: Friday, November 16, 2012

Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the people must shed their negative attitude and strive to achieve the halatuju of the State.
They should also make efforts to transform the development of the State to become a high-income economy.
"We must be committed to carry out upgrading and value-adding in our work so as to spur the development of the State in various fields," he said at the State-level Maal Hijrah celebration at Wisma Muis.
He said this is in order for the people to continue enjoying the existing progress, peace and prosperity.
The people, he said, ought to be thankful for the development that enabled them to be progressive, to live in peace and prosper.
The Hijrah, he said, is not only inviting Muslims to apply changes for the better but also to enhance and strengthen relations among them.
He said this is the essence and message of the Hijrah that must be inculcated and practised by Muslims.
Looking back at history, Musa said, Prophet Muhammad and his friends successfully formed a Muslim nation that was not only successful but also respected.
"Therefore, we must focus our efforts on enhancing unity among us by using a moderate approach that is relevant with the current needs and demands, especially in the multi-racial context in our country," he said.
He said the enhancement in unity among Muslims would strengthen the Muslim community that could also become the pillar of the nation's development.
This, he said, has been proven under the leadership of Prophet Muhammad who developed Madinah as a Muslim nation that had political stability, economic progress and harmony among the multi-racial society.
But in enhancing unity among Muslims to generate the development of the country, he said, they must look at the essence of the Maal Hijrah celebration from a wider and overall perspective.
"What is certain is that the success in developing a country that comprises diversity in people and religion requires participation and commitment from all levels of the people," he said.
Musa said this is to guarantee sharing in the benefit of development to be enjoyed fairly by all races and religions and at the same time to prevent clashes that could destroy unity among the people.
The 1Malaysia concept that was mooted by the Prime Minister, he said, has been a practice and tradition in Sabah.
He said that it provides an opportunity for the people, irrespective of their religion and race, to contribute and serve for the wellbeing and prosperity of the country.
To this end, Musa called on Muslims to strengthen unity and cooperation among them and also among other Malaysians of different faiths and race.
