KOTA KINABALU, May 10 (Bernama) -- Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman has described the Sabah Cabinet members, comprising old and new faces, as a strong and dynamic team which would continue implementing the state's development policies and agenda.
Musa, who is also state Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, believed that appointing leaders who previously held ministerial posts would ensure continuity through their experience.
"At the same time, the line-up of new faces will inject new ideas in carrying out their responsibilities as minister," he told reporters at a special news conference announcing the new Sabah cabinet members at his residence in Sri Gaya near here Friday.
Earlier, the cabinet ministers received their appointment letters and were sworn in before Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at the Istana Negeri.
Musa hoped the new cabinet ministers would give their best to fulfill the mandate and people's wants, in line with the 1Malaysia concept, People First, Performance Now.
Meanwhile, Tanjong Kapor assemblyman Datuk Teo Chee Kang will use his post as Sabah Cabinet member to win over the Chinese in the state, with the aim of getting them to support government policies and efforts.
Teo, who was appointed full minister for the first time, said it was a big responsibility as the 13th General Election had shown a drop in support from the Chinese voters.
"This means that a lot of work needs to be done to win back the Chinese community in Malaysia, especially in Sabah," he said after the swearing-in ceremony.
Teo, who had been state commercial vehicle licensing board chairman, said he was honoured by the trust given by Musa and Liberal Democratic Party president Datuk Liew Vui Keong for the full minister's post in the state government.
Teo, who would be serving as Tanjong Kapor assemblyman for a second term, won with a 1,985 vote majority.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman last night unveiled a State Cabinet line-up with a mix of old and new faces, which he described as a strong, dynamic and cohesive team.
ReplyDeleteMusa, who retained the portfolios of five ministers including himself, said the new team would be able to work together, plan and continue implementing the state’s development agenda.
ReplyDeleteThe other four ministers who keep their portfolios are Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan (non-Muslim Bumiputera quota) and Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin (Muslim Bumiputera quota), Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor and Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.
ReplyDeleteBoth Pairin and Yahya also remain as Infrastructure Development Minister and the Agriculture and Food Industry Minister respectively.
ReplyDeleteIn the new line-up, Musa also answered the puzzle for the Deputy Chief Minister’s post for the Chinese quota by reappointing Parti Gerakan vice president Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah to fill in the vacancy replacing outgoing Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai who failed to retain his Api-Api state seat in the just concluded general election.
ReplyDeleteIt is also a promotion for Tan, 54, who is also the Industrial Development Minister, a post he has held since May 2009 after leaving Sabah Progressive Party when his former party pulled out of Barisan Nasional in September 2008.
ReplyDeleteThree other ministers were also promoted, namely former Assistant Finance Minister I Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan as the new Youth and Sports minister replacing outgoing Datuk Peter Pang, who was not renominated in the last election, former Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Radin Malleh as the Rural Development Minister replacing Datuk Ewon Ebin and former Assistant Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid (Community Development and Consumers Affairs Minister) taking over from Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun.
ReplyDeleteBoth Ebin and Azizah were nominated for the Ranau and Beaufort parliamentary seats in the last election.
Liberal Democratic Party secretary-general Datuk Teo Chee Kang has been appointed to a new portfolio created in the Cabinet as Special Task Minister.
ReplyDeleteMusa said Teo’s roles and tasks of the new portfolio would be announced at a later date.
There was a major reshuffle for the assistant ministerial posts including the three assistant ministers in the Chief Minister’s Department, namely former Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah, former Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Ellron Angin and new-face Datuk Arifin Mohd Arif, replacing Radin (promoted), Datuk Datu Nasrun Datu Mansur and Datuk Edward Khoo Keok Hai.
ReplyDeleteDatu Nasrun was dropped from the list as he was fielded for the Silam parliamentary seat in the 13th general election while Khoo failed to defend his Kapayan state seat.
Apart from Ariffin, there are also eight new faces in the Cabinet, namely Masiung Banah (Assistant Youth and Sports Minister) replacing Datuk Jahid Jahim who fail to retain his Tamparuli seat; Datuk Ramlee Marahaban (Assistant Finance Minister) replacing Datuk Don Mojuntin who was not renominated to retain his Moyog seat; Datuk Zakaria Edris and Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam as the Assistant Local Government and Housing Ministers replacing Yong (promoted) and Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar who was shifted as the Assistant Infrastructure Development Minister; Datuk Hamisah Samad (Assistant Resource Development and Information Technology Minister) taking over from Jainab (promoted as full minister); Datuk Nilwan Kabang (Assistant Rural Development Minister) replacing Datuk Sairin Karno who was shifted as the Assistant Agriculture and Food Industry Minister; Datuk Kamarlin Ombi (Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister) replacing Datuk Bolkiah Ismail who was shifted as the Assistant Industrial Development Minister and Anita Baranting (Assistant Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister) replacing Datuk Herbert Timbun Lagadan who failed to retain his Kadamaian state seat.
ReplyDeleteThere are several old faces in the assistant ministers’ list whose portfolios have been replaced, namely the former Assistant Industrial Development Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Michael Asang who is now the new Assistant Finance Minister; former Assistant Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Bobbey Ahfang Suan (now Assistant Infrastructure Development Minister); former Assistant Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Pang Yuk Ming (now Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister); while Datuk Musbah Jamli has been maintained as the Assistant Agriculture and Food Industry Minister.
ReplyDeleteMusa said the new line-up, which had been agreed upon after meeting and discussions with fellow BN component party leaders, took their oath of office before Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at Istana Negeri, yesterday.
ReplyDelete“We believe the appointment of those who have previously held Cabinet positions will be able to provide continuity through their previous ministerial experience while the new members will be able to inject fresh new ideas and expertise in carrying out their respective duties.
ReplyDelete“It is my hope that this new line-up will conduct and discharge their respective duties and obligations to the fullest of their abilities and fulfill the expectation of the people in the spirit of ‘People First, Performance Now’,” he said, hoping also that they would support all BN elected representatives.
ReplyDeleteMusa however stressed that regardless of whether they were appointed to the Cabinet, they are valued BN members of the State Legislative Assembly and elected by the people to serve and protect their interest.
ReplyDelete“Hence, everyone has a significant role to play in fulfilling our promises to the people and our mission to develop Sabah,” said Musa.
ReplyDeleteSiapa-siapa yang kena bagi tanggungjawab dalam kabinet tu harap dapat menjalankan tanggunjawab dengan baik.
ReplyDeletePastikan semua wakil rakyat turun padang supaya next GE nanti tidaklah karau merayu undi rakyat semula:P
ReplyDeleteBarisan Nasional (BN) wins again to form the Sabah State government after winning 48 of the 60 state seats and 22 of the 25 parliamentary areas in the 13th general election.
ReplyDeleteSabah BN chairman Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said the parliamentary seats won by BN in Sabah also contributed to give the coalition front mandate at the Federal level.
ReplyDelete“I believe this is a really good achievement and I thank all BN component parties for their support and close cooperation.
ReplyDelete“I believe this victory is the result of good teamwork and strong unity in Sabah BN,” he said at a press conference at Sri Gaya, the Chief Minister’s official residence here.
ReplyDeleteMusa said the victory also showed the level of confidence the people in Sabah had towards the Federal government. “On behalf of the BN component parties, I am grateful and touched by the support given by the people of Sabah in this election.
ReplyDelete“Without their strong support, we would not have achieved such a fine performance. We promise that the mandate given to us by the people will not go to waste. What is important is that we will continue to work hard as expected by the rakyat,” he said. He stressed that the victory is not a privilege but a responsibility to provide the best service to the people.
ReplyDelete“Thank you to the media for helping us explain our programmes and policies. We will keep on working and hopefully under the BN, Sabah will continue to prosper,” he said adding that the relationship between the Federal and State governments will lead to more programmes and development for Sabah.
ReplyDeleteOn seats lost by BN at the state and parliamentary levels, Musa said he was saddened by the defeat but “we must accept it with an open heart because our country practises democracy”. He said they would analyse weaknesses and rectify them. “The people have a right to decide and we must accept that decision with an open heart and respect it.
ReplyDelete“What is important is that Sabah must win two thirds of the state seats and I see no problem in carrying out our duties as usual,” he added. He also assured that BN will continue to work with its Chinese partners despite some of its Chinese candidates losing their seats.
ReplyDelete“We still won in Tawau, Tanjung Papat and Elopura so this shows we have support from the Chinese in Sabah. We must be positive and this matter should be discussed together on how to improve it,” he said.
