PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission has assured that 6,092 letters containing overseas postal ballot papers will arrive at the respective offices of the Returning Officers (RO).
Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the papers were received from 100 Malaysian missions worldwide such as Muscat, Dublin and New York.
“Not much problems were faced in the transportation of the papers.
"A total of 8,725 forms were sent overseas on April 28 and 6,092 were claimed by the voters.
"There were 2,633 unclaimed forms,” he told a press conference after inspecting the retrieval of overseas postal voting forms at the Foreign Ministry.
Abdul Aziz said the transportation process of the voting forms would cut out any chance of cheating or tampering.
He also showed the media a locked diplomatic bag containing overseas postal ballot papers that had been separated according to the constituencies and sent to the offices of the ROs. The bags containing the postal votes and boxes with ballots via early voting would only be opened on polling day and counted together with normal votes. - Bernama
