Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Hj. Aman said the cooperation
between NGOs and the Government was important to the successful
development of Sabah and the prevailing peace and harmony in the State.
He said NGOs such as Chinese Associations were vital stakeholders and
had a role to play in nation building and in the development of the
state through their contribution of ideas, feedback and voluntary
efforts toward charitable causes.
“I have always said that I alone cannot develop Sabah. I need the
help of my colleagues in the BN, the civils service and NGOs including
the Chinese associations,” he said when meeting members of the
Federation of the Hakka Associations, Sabah and Labuan and the
Federation of the Hokkien Associations, Sabah and Labuan at the State
Legislative Assembly Building today.
Musa said a government must be administer well, practised prudent
spending, be efficient and transparent if it were to create a climate
that would attract investors to a state.
“If the government was not managed well, there would be instability
and nobody would want to come to Sabah and do business,” he said.
He therefore urged for all the Chinese Associations to close ranks
among each other and cooperate with the government and bring greater
development prosperity to Sabah.
President of the Federation of Hokkien Associations of Sabah and
Labuan, Datuk TC Goh led 22 association presidents while the President
of the Federation of Hakka Associations, Sabah and Labuan, Datuk Jimmy
Tham came with 13 association presidents from throughout Sabah.
Goh said the present State Government under the leadership of Musa
has performed well, bringing unprecedented development to Sabah and its
economy.
“We in the Federation therefore give the Chief Minister 101 percent
support for him to continue to lead the government,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jimmy said the Hakka Community was thankful for the
attention that the State Government has been giving to Chinese schools
and temples for a number of years.
“The State Government under Datuk Musa has been taking care such
needs. He has been attentive and generous. We therefore support his
leadership,” he said.
Since Musa took office, some RM30 millions has been disbursed yearly
to over 500 organisations comprising Independent Chinese and mission
schools, Chinese and Sikh temples and churches.
