KOTA KINABALU: Two senior politicians yesterday received bad reviews during the Suhakam public inquiry.
Duali
Guraat from Kampung Tiong Karanaan, Tamparuli claimed that the two
politicians who were supposed to represent them had failed to address
the needs of the people, including their land woes.
He said that
one of the leaders would often say ‘nanti’ which means ‘wait’, whenever
the villagers asked him for assistance to address their land related
problem.
The other leader, on the other hand, had never gone down to the ground, he claimed.
Duali’s
comments on the two leaders were made shortly after former Suhakam vice
chairman Tan Sri Simon Sipaun urged him and the people from the three
affected villages of Kampung Tiong Karanaan, Kampung Tiong Perungusan
and Kampung Tiong Tomburung to approach their state assemblyman (Kiulu),
Datuk Louis Rampas and member of parliament (Tuaran) Datuk Wilfred
Bumburing.
“The assemblyman and MP must meet with the officers
from the Agriculture Department as well as from the Land and Surveys
Department to address your issues.
“Ask them to follow up the matters for you,” he said.
Duali
earlier told Suhakam that the Agriculture Department had deemed their
land as infertile even though the village folks had been planting rubber
trees since the 1980s, as well as hill paddy and other plants.
He also told Suhakam that the Land and Survey Department had also told them that there were overlapping applications for land.
