Any communication with Anwar is over Amanah, says Bumburing

KOTA KINABALU: Upko deputy president Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred M Bumburing yesterday clarified that any communication he has had with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was about Angkatan Amanah Merdeka and its struggles.
“In response to the statement by Anwar recently in which he mentioned that he and me have communicated, I hereby wish to clarify that I am one of the deputy presidents and the chairman in Sabah of Angkatan Amanah Merdeka, an NGO whose objective is to struggle for the reinstatement of the spirit of genuine brotherhood of all Malaysians as stated and envisioned by Bapa Kemerdekaan the late Tunku Abdul Rahma,” Bumburing said in a statement yesterday.
“In our activities to promote the above objectives we communicate with all Malaysians on a non- political platform.
“I personally communicate with a lot of people, both from the government and the opposition side. I have met the Chief Minister of Sabah Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman to explain what the objective of Amanah and he understood it well.
“I also have communicated with Anwar to explain the struggle and philosophy of Amanah to him and to get his view of the situation in the country today,” he said.
“I also believe that Amanah’s president Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has explained Amanah’s objectives to leaders both in the government as well as in the opposition,” the Tuaran Member of Parliament said.
Bumburing said Amanah is promoting a just and equal society among the multiracial population of Malaysia, and the leadership of Amanah comprise people from various political and social backgrounds, both from the government and opposition sides.
“In Amanah I personally experience a real sense of belonging where members interact and communicate freely and genuinely without racial and political inhibition.
“We, in Amanah, noticed that there exists now a great political, racial and religious divide among the people of Malaysia.
“This situation has to be addressed by promoting healthy and constructive communication among the people, more so among leaders,” he said, adding that after the launch of Amanah by Tengku Razaleigh on June 3, more and more people in Sabah understand the struggle of Amanah.
On the function in Kota Belud which Anwar said he and Bumburing had been invited to attend, the latter explained that he was invited to launch Pesta Kaamatan celebrations in few places.
“I have been invited in Beluran and Kota Belud. I had accepted the invitation and took the opportunity to explain the philosophy of Amanah. Only after arriving at the Kota Belud function that it was made known to me that Datuk Seri Anwar had also been invited.
“We in Amanah will attend functions regardless of who the organizers are because Amanah is an NGO.
“If we choose which function and when to attend, then we would breach our philosophy of bridging people to be united. I hope that people will understand our position on this matter,” he said.
