CM: Govt appreciates role of Sabah's artistes

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the state government appreciated the cooperation and involvement of local artistes and arts enthusiasts to help the state progress.

He said they played an important role as ambassadors and role models for their following among the younger generation.

"Artistes and arts enthusiasts have the potential to succeed in their respective fields and they are good examples for young people to emulate and be inspired," he told reporters at his offical residence at Sri Gaya here Saturday.

More than 100 local artistes from six artistes and arts enthusiasts associations in Sabah expressed their support for the Barisan Nasional (BN) at the function.

The associations comprised Sabah Artistes Associations (Paras), 1Malaysia Artistes Club (KA1M), Sabah Local Artistes Association (Pertisa), Music Industry and Sabah Film Entrepreneurs (Perintis), Sabah Creative Industry Group Movement (SCGIM) and Creative Film and Music Industry Association.

Paras President Abu Bakar Ellah was appointed as chairman for the Sabah Artistes Secretariat which would serve as medium between the artistes and the government.

"We will form a committee to find ways to assist the government in the general election by reaching out to the people, albeit in a more relaxed environment," he told reporters.

LONDON - The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, aka Prince William and his wife Kate, surprised fans at the Olympic Games tennis tournament at Wimbledon by sitting in the cheap seats on Thursday.
The royal pair, whose wedding last summer prompted a mass outpouring of patriotic delight in London, decided to shun the VIP seating available to them in favor of a regular spot in the stands while watching Great Britain's Andy Murray play Nicolas Almagro of Spain.
William and Kate would have been eligible to sit in Center Court's Royal Box, which is reserved for special visitors to the All England Club. But as Murray was playing his quarterfinal on Court One, they instead opted for a normal pair of seats to the left of the players' box.

SARAWAK MUSIC DIVERSITY SHOWCASES AT RWMF 2012

Monday, 9 July 2012 – Forming the largest group members of the festival, the Sarawak Percussion & Ensemble from Sarawak will showcase purely ethnic music of Sarawak ranging from the ethnic community of Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu and Melanau. 78 group members lined up, their music and instruments are as diverse, lush and poly-layered as the Sarawak’s rainforests.
Headed by home-venue Musical Director, Mr Narawi Rashidi, these local musicians and artists will perform a host of rare forms of traditional music and dance on stage as well as on the audience ground at the same time. Their musical beat is expected to instantly transport the listeners to a beautiful and magical land of Sarawak.
Make a date with them on the second and third night of the festival, where the group will entertain you will all metal based music instrument (second night) and all drums and bamboo-based instrument (third night). Other than showcasing Sarawak’s famous warrior dance, seldom heard tunes such as the ethnic chanting and melodies from various communities will also take place.

KOTA KINABALU: ‘Sunset Music Fest at the Tip of Borneo’ is set to enthrall the audience with a great performance lineup for two days on June 29 and 30, at Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, Kudat The event jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Sabah Tourism Board and Tourism Sri Sabah Sdn Bhd, is the largest outdoor performance event in Sabah where the audience will be entertained to a variety of music and songs being performed while watching a panoramic sunset. “This musical festival line-up features performances of local musicians, as welasl foreign musicians, in bringing together the various types of music, including local classical and contemporary music,” said Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Bolkiah Haji Ismail, at the ‘Sunset Music Fest at The Tip of Borneo‘ press conference held at the Horizon Hotel, here, yesterday. Artists and musicians who will be performing are Safinaz Selamat, Jesselton Philharmonic Orchestra, Jackfruit (Sabah’s pop-jazz group), Rhythm of Borneo, Akiuku Orchestra, Fabian William, Madnazir Madillah, Esther Applunius, Roger Wang & Friends and Fauziah Gambus.
