20th May, 2012
KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman has urged all departments and agencies under the Information Communications & Culture Ministry to intensify efforts to disseminate information on the State government’s policies and programmes to the people.Speaking at the opening of the ministry’s integrated complex here yesterday, the Chief Minister said information should include the government’s success in developing the State and raising the socio-economic status of the people, especially in the rural areas. The new complex was opened by Head of State Tun Haji Juhar Haji Mahiruddin. At the same time, efforts to explain the government’s stand regarding certain issues, he said, was also crucial so that the people were given the right information. “We have achieved many successes which contributed to the increase in standard of living and boosted economic development. “However, I wish to stress that as a caring and responsible government, we will not be easily satisfied or rest on our laurels,” he said. Musa who is also Finance Minister said the government, especially Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, had carried out various initiatives and programmes for the good of the people in line with the 1Malaysia concept. “It has been proven that these efforts have helped to reduce the people’s burden. Therefore it is important for the people to continue to give their support and cooperation to the government, especially the programmes and activities hosted by the Information Ministry,” the Chief Minister said. Meanwhile, Musa said the State government appreciated the role and contribution of the department and agencies under the ministry in Sabah in boosting development of the various economic sectors. “In this context, it is obvious that the ministry plays a very important role in disseminating the latest information on what the government is doing,” he added. Musa also pointed out that accurate information and a creative and effective way of disseminating information was crucial. The Chief Minister said he believed that apart from disseminating information through the media, the “turun padang” activities to meet the people organised by the ministry, had brought about a positive impact. “I have personally attended several such programmes which succeeded in imbuing positive values and strengthen unity among the people,” he said. And, Musa added that it was the State government’s desire that this new integrated complex would motivate the ministry staff in Sabah to ensure effective dissemination of information to the people. “I believe the complex is not just a symbol of success and achievement but also reflects the rapid development taking place in the State which we are all proud of,” he said. Additionally, Musa said it also proved that the close cooperation between the Federal and State governments, especially in the field of information, communication and culture, was the key to progress. Also present at the opening were the Governor’s wife Toh Puan Hajah Norlidah RM Jasni, the Chief Minister’s wife Datin Seri Hajah Faridah Haji Tussin, Minister of Information Communications & Culture Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim and wife Datin Seri Maznah as well as Sabah RTM director Abdul Jalani Mahmud, Sabah Information Department director Almain Ajirul, Jasa Sabah director Abdul Manap Lakariba and Bernama general manager Datuk Hasnul Hassan.
