MUSA: DON’T BE DUPED BY OPPOSITION’S LIES

BEAUFORT: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said the people should not be hoodwinked by the opposition’s lies that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government has brought no development to Sabah.

“The opposition pretend to be blind and deaf as though nothing is happening in Sabah when it is very clear that so many developments are taking place all around us,” he said.

“The opposition said they pity the people of Sabah because there is no development but this is a blatant lie … the people know the opposition are lying.

“The people understand that the government has spent billions of ringgit on development through funding from the state government and federal allocation approved by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is very sensitive to our needs.

“We must be thankful for this,” he said at the Klias Christmas celebration organised by Umno Beaufort at Dewan Pa’ Musa here yesterday.

Musa who is also Sabah BN and Umno chairman assured that more development would be coming to Beaufort as well as other areas in Sabah.

“This is what we are doing not only in urban but also in rural areas … this is our election promise and if we are given the mandate again we will use it wisely for the benefit of the people,” he stressed.

Musa said State Cabinet members comprised all ethnic races in Sabah because in developing the state, cooperation from all communities was needed to make sure nobody would be left out.

Earlier, the Chief Minister said it has been a tradition for the people of Malaysia, particularly in Sabah to celebrate all festivities irrespective of religion and race.

“Even though we are from various ethnic groups, we can celebrate our festivities like Christmas in full harmony and peace,” he said.

The presence of the KDM community as well as people from other backgrounds at this belated Christmas celebration, he said, reflected the harmony, peace and unity enjoyed by the people of Sabah.

Happy with the huge turnout, Musa said Beaufort was special to him because it was his birthplace.

“As Chief Minister I assure that we will continue to bring development to Beaufort so that it can be at par with other districts not only in Sabah but the rest of the country,” he said.

Musa was also satisfied with the district development briefing by district officer Wong Fu Tien and the commitment shown by the elected representatives in serving their constituents.

“What is important is that the BN government continues to be sensitive to the people’s needs. The Prime Minister wants us to go to the ground to see what more can be done for the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Azizah Dun who is also the Klias Assemblywoman and Beaufort Umno acting chief, Isnin Aliasnih said the huge attendance was a manifestation of the people’s support for BN, Umno and the leadership of Musa.

“So many people have come to be with us today,” said Azizah.

Isnin said the Chief Minister’s presence reflected his affection for the people here.

Later, Musa accompanied by Azizah, Isnin, organising chairman, Datuk Kimjus Duim, Rural Development Minister Datuk Ewon Ebin, Deputy State Assembly Speaker, Datuk Johnny Mositun, Kuala Penyu Assemblyman, John Teo Mau Sang, UPKO Beaufort Chief, Datuk Wences Angang and district church leaders cut a Christmas cake to mark the celebration.

Musa also presented contributions to 18 churches and chapels in the district. More than 3,000 people attended the celebration yesterday.

PPRT house is New Year gift to family in Kg Geguru, Lupak

BEAUFORT: The Hardcore Poor Housing Project (PPRT) has again enabled a family of eight in Kampung Geguru, Lupak, in Lumadan near here to celebrate the New Year in the comfort of a new home.

Kamis Burau, 59, received the key to his new house from Lumadan assemblyman, Datuk Kamarlin Ombi in a brief handing over ceremony yesterday.

He said he thanked God for allowing him and his family to own a house given by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

“Before this, my wife and I, together with our six children had to live in our old dilapidated house which had a roof that leaked when it rained.

“All of us had to sleep in the living room whenever there was a downpour. Cooking was impossible when it rained and we had to wait till the rain stopped before we could prepare our meals,” said Kamis.

“Now we will have a more comfortable life and this coming New Year will be very meaningful for us because for the first time we can celebrate the New Year in a new house. We credit all of this to the BN government which is sincerely committed in helping the people,” he added.

Leased Land Won't Be Taken Back, Says Sabah Government

KOTA KINABALU, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- The Sabah state government has given its assurance that it will not take back land leased to developers for 999 years and commercial land leased for 99 years.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the lease on the land may however be renewed 10 to 20 years before the expiry of the lease.

"Although there is 20 or 10 years left on the lease, the government can still approve a lease renewal as the land is owned by the people and not the government," he told reporters after receiving a courtesy call from the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah at the State Legislative Assembly here today.

Musa, who is also Sabah Finance Minister, said the policy will be discussed at a state Cabinet meeting.

The Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda) had earlier urged the government to reinstate the 999-year land lease tenure for subdivided titles.

SDC's agriculture projects herald a new, bright future for residents in Kudat, Sabah

KUDAT: The most-awaited agriculture-based projects which are currently being implemented by the State government under Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) in the northern part of Sabah heralds a new, bright future for thousands of people in this area.
Statistics indicated that, for now, northern Sabah, covering the districts of Kudat, Kota Marudu and Pitas, still has a high population of hardcore poor or a high incidence of poverty.
But thanks to the 1Malaysia’s Government Transformation Programme (GTP) initiative taken by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, this region is now enjoying tremendous growth and development, particularly in the agricultural sector.
In what is seen as a new dawn for this area and its people, Datuk Dr Mohd Yaakub Johari, Chief Executive, Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA), a one-stop authority for SDC, said the State government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman, who is also chairman of SEDIA, has devised a special strategy in tackling poverty in northern Sabah.

Five small high impact projects in Sabah to be ready by year end

KUALA LUMPUR: Five small high impact projects being implemented along Jalan Kota Kinabalu to Sindumin, Sabah is expected to be ready by year end, Dewan Rakyat was told yesterday.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Yong Khoon Seng said the project involves resurfacing of road building overtaking lanes, raising the level and upgrading accident prone spots.

“The government is committed and gives priority to improve the road system and develop infrastructure in Sabah,” he said in reply to Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh (BN-Kalabakan) who asked when Jalan Kota Kinabalu/Beaufort to Sindumin will be upgraded to dual carriageway.

The projects include upgrading of the main roads that connect the Sabah west coast from Kota Kinabalu to Papar, Beaufort, Sipitang and Sindumin, near the border of Sabah and Sarawak.

The roads are among those identified for upgrading by the National Road Network (Sabah and Sarawak) Development Master Plan Report or HNDP Phase 2.

PENAMPANG: The Federal government recognised the contribution made by the Federation of Councils of Christian Mission Schools Malaysia (FCCMSM) to improve the national education system.

And this was reflected in the 2013 Budget where the Prime Minister announced that RM100 million would be allocated for all mission schools, said Plantation Industries & Commodities Minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok.

He also urged the Federal government to speed up the disbursement of the financial aid for these schools allocated under the 2012 Budget.

“The mission schools are fast getting recognition from the government as an organisation that can help in the education development of our country,” said Bernard, at the presentation of cash awards to SM St Michael top achievers in the 2011 SPM andPMR results yesterday.

He said the Federal government has also welcomed the mission schools offer to reform the education system.

“With the formation of the FCCMSM, we have a unified body throughout Malaysia to look into the activities, problems and successes of the mission schools,” said Bernard, who is former Primary Six pupil of St Michael in 1962.

New State Library to be iconic building

kota kinabalu: The rm40 million Sabah State Library promises to be an iconic building for the State with its green technology concept that is not only environmentally-friendly but also advocates economic sustainability.

Its nature-friendly construction focuses on the application of efficient use of energy, water and other resources.

This allows for a positive impact through energy saving and reduces operation cost as well helping to conserve the environment.

The project which is a collaboration between the State government and Lahad Datu Water Supply (LDWS) is expected to be completed in 2015.

“The State government took into consideration the strategic location, car park area and land size when choosing where to build. We will provide comfortable and high quality amenities and facilities to promote the reading culture,” said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman yesterday in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony.
