Sabah Special Security Area To Be Called ESSCOM – Musa

KOTA KINABALU, March 11 – The Sabah Special Security Area announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is to be known as the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM), Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said today.
He said the name was decided by the Sabah Security Committee at a meeting which he had chaired earlier today.
Najib had agreed to the name and would announce further details on ESSCOM soon, Musa told reporters after the meeting.
The prime minister announced the establishment of the Sabah Special Security Area on Thursday after a visit to Sabah to have a close look at the “Ops Daulat” offensive launched by the security forces against Sulu militants in Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu.
The militants had holed up in the village since Feb 12 and had ignored government overtures to them lay down arms and surrender.
On March 1 and 2, the militants ambushed and killed eight policemen in Kampung Tanduo and Kampung Simunul, Semporna, prompting the government to launch the offensive.
Musa, in a video conference with Najib in Putrajaya today, said the people welcomed the prime minister’s announcement of the Sabah Special Security Area which stretched from Kudat to Tawau on the east coast and had Lahad Datu as the central command.
“I am sure this measure has raised the confidence of the people, investors and tourists in terms of safety, especially in the Sabah east coast,” he said.
Musa also expressed his appreciation for the sacrifices of the security forces in ensuring the safety of the people in Sabah, particularly Lahad Datu.
“The people of Sabah will hold in high regard the deeds and sacrifices of the security forces,” he said.

Explosions Heard In Operations Zone, But Lahad Datu Area Calm

LAHAD DATU, March 9 (Bernama) -- Except for the sound of explosions at 1 am and 7.30 am, the Lahad Datu area was calm as the 'Ops Daulat' offensive to flush out armed Sulu intruders entered its fifth day Saturday.

No clashes were reported between the security forces and the militants, who had holed up in Kampung Tanduo and Kampung Tanjung Batu, 130km from here, since Feb 12.

People were going about their daily activities as usual in this town and Semporna, about 150km from here.

The explosions occurred in the red zone area of 'Ops Daulat' in Sahabat 16 Felda plantation, prompting Felda settler Norashikin Sarbani, 33, to say that he was worried for a moment but realised that the gunfire could have come from the security forces engaged in the mopping-up and search operation.

Helicopters were also heard hovering above Felda Sahabat plantation.

Fifty-two Sulu militants have been killed in the offensive, which was launched on Tuesday after the intruders killed eight policemen, two in Kampung Tanduo and six in Kampung Simunul, Semporna, on March 1 and 2 respectively.

Felda settler Mujhi Bakrun, 39, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for having launched the offensive to flush out the militants.

Meanwhile, 1Malaysia Putera Club president Datuk Abd Azeez Abd Rahim is expected to arrive at the Felda Sahabat plantation to distribute humanitarian aid to almost 2,000 people relocated from the operations zone.

NO CEASEFIRE UNLESS INTRUDERS SURRENDER

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today Kuala Lumpur will not consider any request for a ceasefire so long as the armed intruders in Sabah do not lay down arms unconditionally.

"I informed President Aquino that they need to surrender unconditionally and their weapons have to be handed over to us," he told a news conference in Felda Sahabat 16 in Lahad Datu.

Media reports from the Philippines today quoted Jamalul Kiram as asking his people to lay down their arms in Lahad Datu after several members of his group were killed in an offensive launched by the Malaysian security forces on

Tuesday after the intruders had killed eight policemen on March 1 and 2. Eighteen of the intruders were also killed in the two skirmishes with the security forces.

UN chief urges end to Sabah violence

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called for an end to violence in Malaysia's Sabah state.
It comes after Malaysia launched a military assault in an attempt to end an incursion by a group of Filipinos who say the land belongs to them. At least 27 people have been killed since the initially peaceful two-week stand-off erupted into violence. On Wednesday, Malaysian troops hunting the Filipinos said they had found at least 13 bodies. In a statement, Mr Ban's office said he encouraged all sides to engage in dialogue to resolve the situation peacefully. "The Secretary-General expresses concern about the impact this situation may have on the civilian population, including migrants in the region," said the statement. "He urges all parties to facilitate delivery of humanitarian assistance and act in full respect of international human rights norms and standards."

Peace rally
The group of some 200 Filipinos landed at a coastal village in the Lahad Datu district of Sabah, on Malaysian Borneo, in mid-February, saying that the territory was theirs. Protesters say they are concerned for the safety of Filipinos in Sabah Calling themselves the Royal Army of Sulu, the clan members said they were descendants of the Sultanate of Sulu in the southern Philippines, which ruled parts of northern Borneo for centuries, and demanded that the Malaysian government pay more money to lease their land. Initial attempts by both the Philippines and Malaysian government to persuade them to leave failed, and late last week, clashes broke out between the clan and Malaysian police, leaving eight policemen and 19 clansmen dead. On Tuesday Malaysian troops backed by fighter jets raided the area around Tanduo, where the clan were holed up. On Wednesday they then carried out extensive searches of the area, saying some of the Filipinos could be hiding among the local population. The clan said on Wednesday that none of its members had been killed, but later in the day, Malaysian officials displayed what they said were photographs of 13 bodies they had found in a shallow grave in Tanduo. It was not clear whether they had died during the assault or in last week's clashes. Malaysian Defence Minister Zahid Hamidi said one of the bodies was a man who was shot in a firefight on Wednesday, and that more bodies could yet be found. He said the security forces had not suffered new casualties since last week. Both the Malaysian and Philippines governments are coming under increasing public pressure to end the ongoing crisis.

A rally was held in the Philippines capital, Manila, on Wednesday night calling for a peaceful resolution and expressing concern for the safety of the many Filipinos who live and work in Sabah. "We are very apprehensive that it may get out of control," Norhaya Nacusag told Reuters. "We are united and firm in our call to both parties for the unconditional and immediate cessation of hostilities and for the Malaysian government and the Sulu Sultanate to immediately work for the de-escalation of conflict and to open up dialogues to resolve this conflict." The Manila-based leader of the Filipino clan, Jamalul Kiram III - one of several men who claims the title of Sultan of Sulu - said earlier this week they they were prepared to "fight to the last man".

LAGI Lahad Datu: Serangan udara dihentikan

Ianya seperti darurat waktu ribut banjir New Orleans dahulu- tentera USA ambil alih bukan lagi polis tempatan)

Isu keselamatan Negara jangan Di politikkan

Najib: Govt to investigate claims of Opposition instigating Sulu Sultanate to reclaim Sabah

KANGAR - The Prime Minister has directed Malaysian intelligence to investigate claims that the Opposition was among parties responsible in instigating the heir of the Sulu Sultanate to reclaim Sabah.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he regarded this as a serious allegation and that it needed to be supported by evidence.
"There are photographs and circumstantial evidence but we need solid evidence to know who really is behind this," he said this at the launching of University Malaysia Perlis main campus on Sunday.
Najib said the Sultanate's claim on Sabah was not new but the fact that the issue was raised again now was suspicious.
He added that Malaysia and the Philippines needed to investigate the matter separately but would exchange information.

Rakan Cop help cut crime by 7.6 per cent in Sabah

7th May, 2012
SANDAKAN: Sabah recorded a 7.6 per cent drop in crime index while street crimes declined by 43.6 per cent since early this year as a result of the people’s cooperation with the police in fighting crimes, according to Bukit Aman Special Task Force Department Director, CP Dato’ Mohamad Fuzi Harun.Nationwide, he said the crime index dropped by 10.8 per cent while street crimes plunged by 44.3 per cent during the period.Mohamad Fuzi said through the ‘Rakan Cop’ programme, the people have helped the police to achieve its target of reducing the crime rate throughout the country.
“This integrated approach will be continued to reduce the crime rate to the minimum level possible, be it at the national or state level,” he said.In Sabah, he said the people had responded very positively to the ‘Rakan Cop’ programme of the Royal Malaysian Police.“We will continue to intensify the programme in our effort to reduce the crime rate in the country including Sabah, Mohamad Fuzi said when met by reporters here Saturday night during a walkabout at the Bandar Kim Fung Night Market in conjunction with the High Profile Policing Programme.“The cooperation of the people is very important especially when we carry out an integrated programme such as this which allows the police to know their grievances or problems that need to be resolved quickly.“Just now, I heard public complaints about certain matters. We promise that the problems will be resolved. Moreover, it is now the objective of the police to provide satisfactory service to the community,” he said.Earlier, Mohamad Fuzi mingled with residents who visited the market.
He also distributed leaflets about the programme and the public’s response was very positive.“Members of the public can now forward their complaints to the police online and the police will provide as much feedback as possible to each complaint received,” he said.‘Rakan Cop’ is a medium to bridge the gap between the police and the community. It is an easy and practical concept to build strong alliances with the public through a clearer, simpler, more integrated and orderly approach.‘Rakan Cop’ is a form of community-oriented policing and a smart partnership approach to encourage the involvement of the public in security matters and in fighting crimes. Also present were Sabah Deputy Police Commissioner, SAC Datuk Tan Kok Liang and Sandakan Deputy Police District Chief, Supt. Fadzil Mohd Ali and senior police officers from the Sandakan Police District Headquarters.
